- Wellness is a proactive, dynamic process whereby individuals and groups become aware of their life choices and responsibility and then decide to make the right choices towards attaining a life of quality and wellness (Arien vd Merwe – Herbal Remedies).
- Wellness refers to total wellbeing that is the balance between and integration of the different aspects of existence.
Integration
Integration refers to the combination and balance of the different aspects in order to achieve wholeness:
- The physical aspect refers to the body.
- The mental/intellectual aspect refers to our belief systems, attitudes, values and creativity.
- Emotions refer to the way we feel the world and others around us in our encounters. Feeling of love, joy, resentment, anger, bitterness, jealousy and fear can either add to our wellbeing or rob us of our health and peace. Suppressed emotions become negative. We need to learn to express our emotions appropriately.
- Soul/spiritual aspects are the core of our beings and refer to the way we relate to God, ultimate meaning and transcendental areas of existence. It relates to the ethical and moral dimension.
- Soul & environmental refers to the interdependence of our existence form the context in which we live.
- Occupational aspect refers to the way we make a living, find fulfilment and express the creativity to find our purpose.
